GlobalSKU - Quick Scan vs. Full Scan

Quick Scan vs. Full Scan in GlobalSKU

When you scan an item in GlobalSKU, you have two different options depending on what you want to accomplish. Quick Scans and Ready-to-List Scans both serve different purposes, use different levels of data, and consume different amounts of system resources. This article explains how each one works, when to use them, and why both options exist.

What Is a Quick Scan (Prospecting Scan)

A Quick Scan is designed to help you quickly identify and item and get an estimated current market value. It is the fast and lightweight scouting tool in GlobalSKU.

How Quick Scan Works.

There are 2 ways to get started - either way GlobalSKU identifies the product and assigns an estimated market value in seconds

  • Barcode scans: Scan a barcode on an item to get started
  • Image scans: Take a photo or upload a photo to get started

What Quick Scan Is Best For

  • Fast pricing checks
  • Deciding whether an item is worth buying or listing
  • High volume scouting when you need speed over depth

Important Notes

  • Results provide general pricing estimates, not exact marketplace matches.
  • Quick Scan uses very little system cost which allows GlobalSKU to offer more Quick Scans than Ready-to-List Scans
  • A Quick Scan cannot be used to create a listing on its own.

What Is a Full Scan

A Full Scan is the in depth process GlobalSKU uses when you decide you want to list the product. It turns a basic scan into a data rich listing package.

How Full Scan Works

Once you choose to list a product from the Quick Scan screen, GlobalSKU performs a multi step deep scan.

  1. Exact and similar product matching

GlobalSKU searches multiple marketplaces looking for one to one product matches or high confidence similar items.

  1. Real time pricing analysis

Pulls accurate average marketplace prices using only real listing data. This means you see what an item actually sold for, not a listing price that may or may not be competitive.

  1. Rich listing data extraction

Gathers titles, keywords, item specifics, attributes, and SEO performing data from:

  • Sold listings (preferred)
  • High ranked active listings if no sold data exists

This information helps the listing you create rank better and appear more credible on marketplaces.

What Ready-to-List Scan Is Best For

  • Generating accurate pricing for selling
  • Creating optimized, keyword rich listings
  • Ensuring correct product details and attributes
  • Preparing items for cross marketplace listing

Important Notes

  • Only items that receive a Ready-to-list scan can be listed on connected marketplaces through GlobalSKU
  • Ready-to-list scans use significantly more system resources than Quick Scans which is why the platform provides fewer Full Scans per subscription

Image Scans: Best Practices

If you are scanning using images instead of a barcode, keep these tips in mind.

  • Take as many photos as possible. The more images you provide, the more attributes GlobalSKU can extract during the Full Scan.
  • Photograph key tags or labels. For example, if your item has a size tag, model number, or material label, include it in your photos.

GlobalSKU will automatically use this information to populate your listing accurately.

More images lead to better matches, better pricing accuracy, and better SEO.
